Who Manages IELTS & What Tests Does It Include?
IELTS is managed by the University of Cambridge (ESOL) examinations British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. IELTS confirms the highest International standards of language assessment of English skills, which will assist in your success for a new job or study placement abroad. You will be assessed on four essential elements, namely;
Listening
Reading
Writing
Speaking
The test is designed to reflect the language spoken every day in an English-speaking country and even covers variations such as British English, American and Australian English.
Part of the assessment is a real-life conversation that will allow you to communicate effectively with English speakers worldwide.
Universities and employers recognise IELTS in many countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the U.S.A.
Which Test To Choose?
IELTS Academic:
If you plan to attend university for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree you will need to take IELTS Academic test.
IELTS General Training:
Whether you need work-related training or if you intend to immigrate to an English-speaking country, IELTS General Training provides the language skills needed to participate fully in your country of choice.
Test Formats & Results:
You can give IELTS test for Academic or General Training, but Listening and Speaking Modules are the same in both tests.
If you are planning to study abroad, you must take Academic Reading & Writing Modules.
If you are planning to apply for immigration/work, you are required to take General Reading & Writing Modules.
However, all the candidates are required to appear for all four modules during the test.
Assessment of the test is done on nine levels called Bands.
There is no pass or fail; you receive bands ranging from 1 to 9 in each module and an overall average band.
The results of the IELTS Tests are valid for two years.
Test Durations
Total duration of the test, which includes all 4 modules, is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Listening – 30 Minutes
Reading – 60 Minutes
Writing – 60 Minutes
Speaking – 15 Minutes

Anu brings in the knowledge of teaching and tips & tricks needed to crack the IELTS examination. She has a rich tutoring experience of 7 years. She is also a TESOL/ TEFL certified teacher.
Anu began her career as a journalist and later switched to teaching after realizing that she could help students in communication and interpersonal skills. She has worked with reputed schools and media organizations since 2011.
