Education System in Canada

Higher education system in Canada is quite similar to that of the U.S.A. Public and private universities rule the roost, while there is the prestigious U15 Group of Research Universities as well. The Canadian education system has influences of British education framework as well.

While public and private universities offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate courses in almost every thinkable specialty, the U15 Group universities have specific focus on research-based programs. Although each of these three are degree-awarding educational institutes, the U15 Group needs a special emphasis and understanding.

U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities

Canada is among the leading nations in energy research and is regarded as one of the wealthiest countries. The U15 group attracts 79% of the investments destined for research, has 94% of patents registered by Canadian universities and generates 82% of the spin-offs.

The U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities is an association of 15 Canadian public research universities. It is headquartered in Ottawa and was founded in 1991 to represent the interests of its members, primarily to provincial and federal governments, concerning the research enterprise and government programs that support research and development.

In total, U15 members represent 47% of all university students in Canada, 71% of all full-time PhD students, 87% of all contracted private-sector research in Canada, and 80% of all patents and initial projects. Earning a postgraduate or a doctorate degree from one of the U15 universities could set you up for a successful life.
