Education System in France
Over and above the universal system of universities, France is home to the ‘Grandes Ecoles’ – elite and prestigious public and private institutes of higher education. Study programs at these premier education institutes are usually focused on a single subject area. They are exhaustive and demanding.
Institutes under Grandes Ecoles confer degrees for five years of undergraduate studies, while some also award a Masters degree. Admission is rather selective; conferred after a competitive entrance exam and an appropriate degree. The tuition fees are consequently higher than those of a regular university.
A third choice for students aspiring to study abroad in France is specialised schools and institutes that offer courses in specific specialties such as medicine, audio-visual, journalism, agronomy, fashion and design. There are about 3,000 institutes offering progressive alternative career choices. However, do note that the State may not recognise all these institutes since they mix both public and private institutes. Confirm before you seek admission.
